Theatre I

This course is designed for students with little or no theatre experience and promotes enjoyment and appreciation for all aspects of theatre.  Classwork focuses on the exploration of theatre literature, performance, historical, and cultural connections, and technical requirements.  Improvisation, creative dramatics, and beginning scene work are used to introduce students to acting and character development.  Incorporation of other art forms in theatre also helps students gain an appreciation for other art forms, such as music, dance, and visual art.

Theatre II

This course is designed for students who have taken Theatre I and want to continue to explore their talents. Students will expand their knowledge of theatre and be challenged as an artist on stage and behind the scenes. Students will develop their 21st-century skills of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication while exploring various acting techniques, character analysis, theatre genres, playwrighting, analysis of dramatic literature, careers, and production design. In addition, students will explore Odyssey of the Mind which teaches students to use their natural creativity and out-of-the-box thinking to become problem solvers.

Theatre III & IV Honors

This is an audition only class. Interested students at the end of the year will submit a performance audition or artistic portfolio. At this advanced level, students have taken Theatre I and have been inducted to ITS. Students will continue to use their 21st century skills by creating, evaluating, analyzing, and applying their knowledge and skills. Students will expand their knowledge of production design, directing, analysis of dramatic literature, playwrighting, the art of auditioning, and applying various acting techniques to performance. At the beginning of the year, we will be focusing on preparing and rehearsing for our Thespian Festival Individual Events. In the latter part of the year, our students will rehearse for the Student Directed One Acts and Senior Showcase which they will perform at the end of the year.
